Indian Well State Park
It is a public recreation area consisting of 153 acres on the western bank of the Housatonic River, which makes it the primary attraction. In 1928, the state park was established and became a popular venue for annual regattas hosted by the New Haven Rowing Club. Indian Well State Park has amazing 15 feet horsetail waterfalls with a splash pool at the bottom of the falls. One of the lovely features of the park is the picnic grove at the water’s edge, which is a great spot for a retreat, especially during the summer season. Aside from swimming and picnicking, other activities include hiking, boating, river fishing, and field sports. The site has a child-friendly swimming area.
Jones Family Farms
This family-owned farm is nestled in the White Hills of Shelton with a total land area of 400-acres. It has a 19th-century dairy barn and homestead farmhouse that offers visitors a relaxing and peaceful ambiance. Its countryside charm impresses everyone with rows of neatly arranged Christmas trees, stonewalls, and well-maintained fields. Currently, the farm boasts 200 acres of cultivated Christmas trees, 15 acres of blueberries, 15 acres of strawberries, 25 acres of pumpkins, gourds, and squash, and 10 acres of grapes for the farm’s winery. Adults can soak up the fall foliage and buy squash and apples. A wide range of wines is being produced at the Homestead Farm. The farm offers kitchen and winery classes.
Beardsley’s Cider Mill & Orchard
If you want excellent quality apples, your itinerary should include a trip to Beardsley’s. This cider mill preserves the flavor of the cider by making alcohol-free cider that is treated with Ultraviolet light instead of being pasteurized. Visitors enjoy their “Pick-your-own-apples” orchards because there is no need to climb or use a ladder as they grow dwarf trees. The farm also offers several varieties of peaches and plums. From the parking lot, you can smell the yummy cider-donuts, farm-baked pies, and cookies. Aside from the freshly-pressed cider and baked goodies, the farm also sells local honey, maples syrup, maple candies, jams and jellies, fruit butter, pumpkin cheesecake, and some unique souvenir items.
