The city of Shelton is part of Fairfield County, located in western Connecticut at the junction of the Housatonic and Naugatuck Rivers. As of the 2020 Census, the city has a total population of 40,869. It was settled by the English in 1639 as part of the town of Stratford, Connecticut. Before its incorporation in 1789, the city was named Coram, Ripton, and Huntington. In 1882, it was renamed Shelton and was incorporated as a city in 1915. The current name came from a manufacturing village that started in the 1860s, Shelton Company, whose founder Edward Shelton also established the Ousatonic Water Power Company. At present, Shelton remains a center of manufacturing business and headquarters of several international companies. From the 1960s until recently, the town relied on these industries.

Indian Well State Park

It is a public recreation area consisting of 153 acres on the western bank of the Housatonic River, which makes it the primary attraction.
